Mrs. Ethel Mae Atkins Atkins, age 95, of Ararat, NC died Thursday, February 25, 2010 at Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home of Dobson. She was born October 30, 1914 in Surry County to the late Herman and Priscilla Armstrong Atkins. She was a retired homemaker and a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Barbara and Herman Hicks; Ararat, NC; grandchildren: Ricky Hicks and wife Diane, Jeffrey Hicks and wife Frenda, Kevin Hawks, Denise Jones & Darlene Cook; eleven great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; brothers: Junior Atkins; Tillsonburg, Canada & Goldie Atkins; Tillsonburg, Canada; brothers-in-law: Moir & wife Faye Atkins & Cecil Atkins; Ararat, NC; sisters-in-law, Eva Davis; Pilot Mountain, NC, Polly Watson; Mount Airy, NC & Donna Atkins; Coburg, Canada; special niece: Louise Tilley; Ararat, NC and special friends: Mammie Combs; Mount Airy, NC & Brenda Brindle; Mount Airy, NC. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Atkins was preceded in death by her husband Roy Elmer Atkins; daughter, Carolyn Lowe; brothers, Elbert, Glenn & Ralph Atkins and great-grandsons Travis Bryant and David Hicks. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, February 28, 2010 at 2:00 pm at Howell Funeral Chapel of Mount Airy conducted by Rev. Wallace Cole and Rev. Mitchell Pruitt with interment to follow at the Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 27, from 6-8 pm at Howell Funeral Service in Mount Airy.
